Ceramics
The primary intent of my work is to make functional art pottery. The term "art pottery" typically describes pottery made for decorative purposes rather then function. The clay (porcelain) and glazes (crystalline) I use are more typically used on decorative pots. I combine crystalline glazed porcelain with elegant forms and imagery to create a pottery that could be appreciated merely for the aesthetic qualities yet I try to keep function and usability in the forefront when I create my pots. The highest compliment I have ever received was "the coffee tastes better in your mugs." While I am sure the coffee did not actually taste any different, I felt, at least with that mug, I had achieved my goal by elevating the every day experience of the user.
